Foods to avoid during Ramadan

With the advent of the holy month, doctors advise those fasting during Ramadan to pay extra attention to their diet, even more so than on other days. A disruption in the diet during the holy month may cause discomfort and digestive problems .  

Therefore, many fasting people wonder about the foods and drinks that should be avoided during this month, as they lead to various health problems in the body and stomach during fasting, including:  

1. Fried foods:

It is preferable to avoid fried foods and replace them withWith vegetables, fried foodIt leads to indigestion and weight gain due to its extremely high calorie content and lack of nutrients. Eating it in excess can disrupt your diet, thus increasing the severity of fatigue and exhaustion caused by fasting during Ramadan.  

 

2- Soft drinks:

Soft drinks are full of sugars and substances that are harmful to the body, as they increase body fat and will not benefit it at all, so it is preferable to replace them with natural juices .  

 

3- Salty foods:

They cause fluid retention and should be avoided. They are also among the foods that make us feel very thirsty, so they should be avoided during Suhoor to avoid feeling thirsty during our fast .  

 

4- Spicy foods:

 Spicy foods should be avoided throughout the month of Ramadan as they make us vulnerable to heartburn and digestive problems .  

 

5- Sweets:

One of the Ramadan customs and traditions is eating sweets after iftar. This is one of the biggest causes of weight gain during Ramadan, as sweets contain large amounts of sugar. They are a rich source of calories but poor in nutritional value.  

 

It is true that these dishes provide the body with immediate energy, but this energy does not last long and may disappear at any moment . If we moderate our intake of sweets, we will not be surprised if we lose weight. We only try to reduce them significantly, and do some exercise, and we will burn fat and lose weight during Ramadan. To curb the feeling of craving for sugar, we can resort to eatingFruits are full of natural sugars, which make us feel better, provide water to the body, and do not cause weight gain.  

 

6- Pickles:

Pickles are full of sodium, and too much sodium is very harmful to health and makes a person feel thirsty. Pickles in particular are one of the foods that athletes and bodybuilders do not prefer to eat because they contain a large amount of salt, which causes dehydration in the body due to its ability to absorb the fluids that enter it in limited quantities throughout the fasting period .  

 

7- Rice and pasta:

It is preferable to reduce it as much as possible because starches increase weight and are a burden on the stomach .  

 

8- Citrus fruits:

Avoid citrus fruits such as oranges because they cause stomach acidity and gas .  

 

9- Foods rich in fats:

Foods rich in fats, such as cream, fatty meats, ghee, and other foods, make us thirsty and hungry early, and increase cholesterol levels .  

 

10- Tea and coffee after breakfast:

It is a popular drink in our Arab societies, but it should not be drunk immediately after breakfast .  

Foods containing chocolate or any other source of caffeine, which acts as a diuretic. Excessive consumption of this substance can cause the body to lose valuable fluids, salts, and minerals it needs throughout the day .  

You should follow a healthy, balanced diet during the holy month of Ramadan , avoiding harmful foods and drinks that can cause health problems such as indigestion and weight gain . By avoiding these foods and enjoying healthy foods such as vegetables , fruits , or natural juices , you can maintain your health and activity throughout Ramadan and better enjoy the benefits of fasting .
